A very scarce 1756 pattern English 12" long sea service military flintlock pistol by vernon dated 1762 an officers pistol from the revolutionary napoleonc war period with lock plate engraved with GR and crown, full walnut stock with replacement ramrod ,with full brass furniture, butt cap with regulation steel belt hook, steel barrel 30cm/12 inches, overall length 48.5cm/19 inches click on the photos for additional imagesbore measured 15.38 mm or 0.597 in inches about 16 bore approx.
The sea service pistol has the original 12 inch barrel, this type of pistol saw extensive use during the the French and Indian Wars and the American Revolution and Nelson's adventures during the Napoleonic Wars. During the 1790s, the barrel was shortened to 9 inches making it more convenient in the tangled mêlées experienced by boarding parties. The shortened version is often referred to as the East India Co. Sea Service Pistol because they were the first to shorten it. By time of the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 and the War of 1812 there would have been a mixture of lengths of barrel on board ship

A very fine profusely carved European, possibly Italian, flintlock holster pistol from the 18th century. With full length walnut stock carved scrolls around the tang and underside of stock, chiselled brass escutcheon, deep chiselled and engraved barrel with gold coloured metal inlay.Engraved steel lock plate with elegant 's' shaped cock. Well carved impressive brass grotesque butt. Overall length approx 20.5 inches, barrel approx 13.75 inches, bore size 5/8inch, approx weight 1.092kg.
